TUESDAY: HENDRICKS STARTS OUT SLOW BUT WINS MEDALIST
The MMGA traveled to St George and the Sand Hollow golf course to begin their fourth and final week away from Mesquite due to the over-seeding process. Two more “snowballers” returned and one of them made his mark early on. Despite starting triple, double bogey, and six over on the front side, Neil Hendricks soon got used to the dry desert air and fired a blistering one under par 35 on the back side for his 77 to lead all players. The 35 on the back was aided by birdies on number 11 and 13. His overall three birdie afternoon won him four skins. Bill Eller shot a steady 43-43-86 to tie Terry Gardner (84) for low net honors with 70. Gardner’s only bad hole of the day, a triple bogey, cost him first place. Eller, who has been playing well lately, had a birdie on the always tough par three 15th hole. Gary Denhalter (88) took third with his net 73. Welcome back Marv Gielen and Neil Hendricks.
THURSDAY: LIRA ENDS ROADTRIP ON A LOW
Manny Lira ended the long Mesquite over seed month to St George with a fantastic round of golf played under ideal conditions at the Valderra golf course in Ivans. He had four pars and no double bogeys during his 44-41-84 round. It netted out as a 61 and first place low net, five shots better than the next two players. Great round Manny! The next two best players were Jim Smith (82) and Bob Gallihugh (80) both having net 66. Smith went bogey, par to earn second low net as Gallihugh shot bogey, bogey. Sterling Johnson (80) and Tom Greer (82) were tied for 4th. Greer would take that spot with a par on the first hole while Johnson shot double bogey. Johnson really didn’t care because he recorded four birdies during his round that led to three “real men’s” skins. This ends the MMGA Sept road trip and the group is very much looking forward to returning to their friendly confines in Mesquite. Welcome back Bob Chambers.
