MMGA Weekly Update

TUESDAY: THE  “EAGLE”  HAS  RETURNED

Bill Irace, in a former life, worked on the lunar modular program including the eagle space craft.  Today on his first day back from summer vacation, sailing around the east coast, he started his first hole, a par five, with an eagle of his own.  What a great way to start your fall / winter golf with the MMGA.  He would go on to post a 41-43-84 round.  The medalist for the morning play at Coral Canyon was Bubba Petrick.  He birdied holes one and five to go into the eighth hole two under par.  A bad tee shot on both holes eight and nine cost him three strokes but he managed to finish one over par 37.  He matched the same 37 on the back side including a birdie on the par five 16 hole for his 74.  Also returning snowballer Gary Denhalter shot a nice round of 38-39-77 for second place.  Third best gross score was turned in by Bill Eller’s very good round of 39- 40-79. Six players netted out in the 60’s led by Denhalter’s 61,  Eller’s 62, Jerry Hylamd’s (81) net 66, Terry Gardner’s (83) net 67,  Jim Smith’s (83) net 67 and Bob Gallihugh’s (82) net 68.

Welcome back Gary Denhalter and Bill Irace

THURSDAY: IRACE CLIMBS  TO  THE  TOP  OF  SKY  MT

Bill Irace is enjoying his first week back from summer vacation.  After his historic eagle on Tuesday today he teed it up in absolutely fabulous weather at Sky Mt in Hurricane, Ut.  He started on the easier back nine and certainly took advantage of it by shooting a one over par 37 which included a birdie three on #17.  On the more difficult front side he shot two bogeys threw the first seven holes.  On hole #8 he unfortunately shot a quadruple bogey seven on the par three or his score could have been in the low 70’s.  Still a nice round Bill considering the next score was an 83 by Bubba  Petrick.  Manny Lira had a more normal 48 on the back side which included a very nice birdie 4 on the par five 18th hole.  Manny you should get in the real men’s skins game!  Strangely he took the advantage on the tougher front nine but managed a good 43 for a total 91 which was good enough for first place low net with a 69.  Second low net was a tie between Jim Smith (87) and Terry Gardner (86) with net 72’s.  When Gardner triple bogeyed the first handicap hole Smith took the second spot with his bogey.

NOTE:  Next play is on Tuesday September 25th at 10:18 at Sand Hollow, and Thursday September 27th at  Valderra. at 10:48.  Always check your sign - up sheets, and/or our website, for any changes.  Anyone interested in the MMGA may call 346-6363 or visit our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
