TUESDAY: PETRICK EDGES OUT SWAYNE BY ONE SHOT - REILLY STAYS HOT
Joel Reilly started September where he left off in August playing very very well. As a result his handicap dropped three numbers. Today’s round further solidified that he is going to become the most improved player in 2012. On Tuesday at Falcon Ridge he shot 44 on the front side and a very good 40 on the more difficult back nine for 84 and a net score of 64 to win low net medalist. It was four net strokes better than runner-up Dick Swayne (78) and net 68. Courtney Larsen (96) and Manny Lira (93) were tied for third low net with 70. Larsen won third with a double bogey on #13 to Lira’s snowman. Bubba Petrick was medalist with a steady 39-38-77 to edge out playing partner Swayne’s 78.
THURSDAY: PETRICK OVER COMES OBSTACLES TO EDGE OUT HUETTER
With the Palmer course in the process of getting the course ready for over-seeding the fairways and greens had the water shut off making them very short and very firm. Bubba Petrick managed to shoot a 39-42-81 to win low medalist by two strokes over “Smitty” Huetter’s 83. Huetter’s second place gross finish actually netted him a 72 which edged out Ray Rodger’s net 73 to win first place low net. Third low net went to Bob Gallihugh (87) net 75 when he bogeyed the first handicap hole and Terry Gardner (88) and net 75 double bogeyed it for 4th. The last spot went to Jerry Hyland (88) net 76 who had a par four on the first hole and Tom Durenberger, Sterling Johnson and Courtney Larsen all bogeyed it. The MMGA now heads to St. George for the next three weeks while the Mesquite courses re-seed.
APERCU’S: Sterling Johnson had the hole of the day on the short par four #10 hole. His drive dribbled off into the rough where he managed to hit it back out into the fairway. His third shot stopped 10 inches from the hole for a “Rory” lay-up par four.
