The Mesquite Creation Center, 100 W. Old Mill Road, hosted its last swim meeting of the season on Saturday, July 21.
“We had four teams at the event – the Mesquite Manta Rays, Fredonia Killer Whales, Dart (Dixie Aquatic Race Team) Sharks & Hurricane Tiger Sharks. We had around 250 swimmers for this year-end meet in Mesquite,” said Nick Montoya, Superintendent of the City of Mesquite Athletics & Leisure Services Department.
“I want to say thank you to all of the volunteers for their help and support during the event,” he added.
Next weekend is the Tri-State Championships to be held in Cedar City, Utah’s, Cedar City Aquatic Center. The Cedar City Aquatic Center is located at 2090 W. Royal Hunte Dr.
Swimmers, parents and spectators who are interested in watching the championships can get a discount, Montoya noted.
“The Tri-State Swimming League has set up some hotel accommodations. And discounts are available at Crystal Inn in Cedar City. Tell them you are with the Tri-State Championships to get the special rate,” he added.
The Mesquite Manta Ray team earned several first place awards. First-place winners of the Girls 8 & under 100-yard freestyle relay were Tyra Ludvigson, 7, Brooklin Montoya, 7, Emma Hughes, 8, and Alley Shaner, 8. Their time was 1:47:55.
The same team also won the 8 and Under, 100-yard Medley Relay.
The Manta RaysBoys, 12 and Under “A” Team won first in the 200-yard Medley Relay. Ethan Woods, 9, Stetson Ludvigson, 10, Koden Tietjen, 10, and Dsaxon Toone, 11, turned in a time of 3:31.87.
Indiviual winners included Jamie Hulet, 9, finished first in the breast stroke with 28 seconds and 19 tens.
Montoya again demonstrated her aquatic skills by taking first place in the Girls, 7-8, 25-yard Fly Finals (28.27); the 100-yard IM Finals (2:21.65) and the25-yard Free Finals (21.72).
The girls weren’t the only Manta Rays to earn medals.
The Mesquite Manta Rays “A” Boys also swam into the winner’s circle in the Boys, 11-12, 200-yard Medley Relay with a total time of 3 minutes, 31.87 seconds. The team is Ethan Woods, 9, Stetson Ludvigson, 10, Koden Tietjen, 10, and Daxon Toone, 11.
Ludvigson also finished first in the Boys, 9-10, 50-yard Fly Finals (47.87) and in the Boys, 9-10, 100-yard IM Finals (1:48.53).
