For the past several weeks there has been a plethora of letters voicing loud protests about the people who choose to smoke tobacco while in the local casinos.
Medical studies and personal experiences are quoted to verify the tragic results of breathing “other people’s” smoke. I would venture that at least some of those accusations are valid, but it seems odd that the real health problem is very purposely not mentioned.
While I don’t know anyone at this time battling lung cancer due to the casino’s putrid air, I do know of several locals who are battling severe health problems (diabetes, hypertension, cancer, etc. )due to avoirdupois. A 30-minute visit to any of the local buffets or in-casino dining establishments will reveal what is actually the national health disaster.
I suppose that waddling down to an anti-smoking protest is a noble gesture, but keep in mind that for every soul who passes due to secondhand smoke, scores will expire as a result of their self inflicted eating and lifestyle habits.
I realized many years ago that people who go to bars and/or casinos drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes, so if it bothered me I just stayed away. Think about it!
