The Hughes Middle School Dance Team and Cheer Squad attended Dance Camp at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah, July 18-21, and came home with awards.

According to Tanisha Wittwer, the HMS Dance Team and Cheer Squad advisor, the dance team of Hailee Tilton, Kinlee Clark, Ashlee Faught and Karla Fragoza received the highest award an individual could receive: the “Super Sensational” ribbon.

Kinlee Clark also received a first place ribbon in the Drill Downs, Wittwer added.

And the Cheer Squad received the Spirit Award.

Cheer Squad members Lesley Quintero and Alicia Carrillo also competed in the All American. “This was just to give them the experience,” Wittwer noted. “You must be on a high school varsity team to win.”

The HMS students left Mesquite on July 18 and returned on July 21.

“Our girls worked hard 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.” Wittwer said. “I am very proud of them. They all got along and learned a lot. It is a great team-building opportunity and the girls came home with 29 new friends each.”

The advisor and coach said the two teams worked well together and had a lot of fun. “Most nights were spent with late nights in the girls’ rooms, or at a dance and pizza party in the coaches’ room. It was a fun three days,” she added.

“It was exhausting for me! I could not have done this with out the help of two people who came and assisted me -- Krissy Thornton and Taylor Hannig.”

The HMS Dance Team Captain is Taylor Bulloch. Co-captains are Ashlee Faught, Hailee Tilton and Kinlee Clark. Team members include: Alyson Cook, Braxten Meacham, Burgundy Hall, Hanna Haviland, Jackie Hughes, Karla Fragoza, Kezney Crompton, Leslie Gonzales, Mackenzie Bal, Rachel Cook, Rachel Fails and Sarah Walters.

The HMS Cheer Squad Captain is Leslie Quintero. The co-captains are Alicia Carrillo and Kenzie Goulding. Squad members are: Alondra Jiminez, Amy Nguyen, Brylie Beaumont, Cecilia Wahl, Eileen Navarro, Emerald Hall, Esmeralda Fuentes, Karina Briceno, Kendyl Bowler, Nancy Pinto and Shianne Hughes.
