Over 100 people visited the new office for the Mesquite Democratic Campaign Headquarters on the afternoon of Sept. 8.  “I’m very happy with the turnout,” said Fred Toval, who is president of the group.

The event included speeches from Nevada democrats who are hoping to get elected in November.  They were Steven Horsford who is running for congress, and Felipe Rodriguez who is running for District 19 of the Nevada State Assembly.  Shelly Berkley, who is running for re-election in the House of Representatives, is expected to speak to the group in the future.

Both Rodriguez and Horsford said they were running to serve the people and help make America a stronger place.  “I’m not running for congress to be a congressman.  I’m running because, like all of you, I’m pretty fed up with Washington.  I want to make sure we elect people to congress who are going to work with the President to get things done, not against him,” said Horsford.  Clark County District 5 Judge Carolyn Ellsworth, who was appointed by Governor Sandoval, also spoke to the group.

Toval is a big supporter of President Obama and said that the group is working hard to get him re-elected.  “Everything it takes that we will have to do, I will do it,” he said.  Toval likes the President and thinks he is doing a good job improving America.  “He (President Obama) is suffering major cutbacks and drawbacks from the other side, and things are still getting better,” said Toval.  Toval cited the auto industry and health care as some of the Presidents major accomplishments.  “General Motors is now the leading manufacturer of automobiles in the world.  A year ago they were going to be bankrupt.  He recovered it,” said Toval.

The group is going to be working 12 hour days starting at 8 a.m. Monday-Saturday.  Volunteers will be helping with phone banks and other activities that will help encourage people to vote for democrats in November.
