STREETS OF MESQUITE
Editor’s note: The following was taken from the pages of the Mesquite Police Department blotter for Jan. 13-19.
Controlled substance problem: Jan. 13 -- An officer stopped a northbound vehicle for a traffic violation on Interstate 15 at 10:22 a.m. Upon further investigation a controlled substance was located in the vehicle. The driver was issued one citation for the traffic violation and one citation for possession of a controlled substance. The driver was released with a court date.
Theft-bicycle: Jan. 13 -- An officer was dispatched to a North Arrowhead Lane apartment complex regarding the theft of a bicycle. The officer gathered information at 6:04 p.m. from the complainant and checked the area. A report was completed including the bicycle information.
Phone harassment: Jan. 13 -- Officers responded to a West Pioneer Boulevard business at 8:15 p.m. reference a telephone harassment incident. The complainant reported several employees have been receiving harassing phone calls from an unknown suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
Traffic stop: Jan. 13 -- Police conducted a traffic stop at 9:45 p.m. on a vehicle driving without any headlights on North Sandhill Boulevard. During the traffic stop it was discovered the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving. The driver was arrest for DUI.
Traffic stop: Jan. 13 -- Officers conducted a traffic stop on a northbound vehicle on I-15 for a moving violation at 11:01 p.m. Officers observed evidence of criminal activity and after a consensual search of the vehicle, a large quantity of stolen credit cards was located. The driver was arrested for possession of credit cards without owners consent.
Traffic accident with damage: Jan. 14 -- An officer responded to at 11:46 p.m. a parking lot on West Pioneer Boulevard where a private property accident had occurred. The driver of the at-fault vehicle was determined to be impaired and arrested for driving under the influence.
Theft: Jan. 14 -- Officers took a report at 1:35 p.m. for a theft of a trailer from a Riverside Road storage yard. The trailer was entered into NCIC database and officers are currently attempting to locate the suspect(s) and trailer.
Found property: Jan. 14 -- An officer responded to a Falcon Ridge Parkway gas station at 6:20 p.m. for a report of a found wallet. A women's wallet with identification had been located at 5:54 p.m. and held for safekeeping.
Theft from vehicle: Jan. 15 -- A report was taken at 12:50 p.m. for property unlawfully removed from a vehicle in West Hafen Lane.
Fraud: Jan. 15 -- An officer responded to East Mesquite Boulevard at 2:36 p.m. for a complaint of possible fraud and investigation was begun.
Information report: Jan. 15 – Officers weighed, tested, and re-certified canine drug training aids at 4:06 p.m. at the Mesquite Justice Facility on Hillside Drive.
Theft-bicycle: Jan. 15 -- An officer responded to a Riverside Road residence reference a theft report at 5:43 p.m. The complainant wanted to report a child's bicycle was stolen. The officer gathered details of the incident, attempted to locate the bicycle, and completed a report.
Suicidal person: Jan. 16 -- Officers responded to an Ice Box Canyon residence reference a suicidal person at 1:36 a.m. Officers contacted an adult female who admitted she was suicidal and had taken numerous prescription medications. The female was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and a mental evaluation.
Domestic trouble: Jan. 16 -- Officers responded to a West Mesquite Boulevard casino reference a domestic dispute at 4:41 a.m. Officers contacted an adult male and female and learned a domestic battery had occurred. Officers determined the male was the primary physical aggressor and he was arrested for domestic battery.
Civil matter: Jan. 16 -- Officer responded to the Mesquite Police Department lobby on Mayan Circle reference a citizen assist at 9:19 a.m. The complainant was given the information she requested.
Graffiti: Jan. 16 -- Officer responded to a local dog park on Second South Street at 10:51 a.m., reference a report of graffiti on two of the signs posted at the park. Photographs were taken and an investigation started.
Found property: Jan. 16 -- A key ring was found at 11:01 a.m. in a local dog park on Second South Street and turned over to the police for safe keeping and an attempt to locate the owners.
Traffic accident without injury: Jan. 16 -- Officers responded to the area of Pioneer Drive and Falcon Ridge Parkway at 12:52 p.m. reference a single-vehicle accident involving a light pole. Officers and Mesquite Fire and Rescue arrived and discovered an adult male had been injured. He was transported to the hospital by the ambulance.
Wanted person: Jan. 16 -- Mesquite Police Department responded to the Washington County Jail in Utah at 5:17 a.m. in reference to a male adult who was wanted by the Mesquite Justice Court on felony charges. The police department placed the male adult under arrest for the warrant and extradited him back to Mesquite.
Threatening: Jan. 17 -- Officer responded to the Wal-Mart on West Pioneer Boulevard at 7:44 a.m. reference a report of a threat to a cashier. Officer spoke with the cashier who stated a man was disorderly towards her in her line. She requested to sign a citation against him.
Traffic stop: Jan. 17 -- Officers conducted a traffic stop at West Mesquite Boulevard and Riverside Road for a minor traffic violation at 9:45 p.m. Investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle was in possession of marijuana. The driver received a citation for possession of marijuana and a minor traffic violation.
Welfare check: Jan. 17 -- Officers responded to the Mesquite Police Department to speak with a local resident referencing a welfare check and possible harassment.
Property damage, non-vandalism: Jan. 18 -- Officer responded to the northbound Exit 122 on-ramp for I-15 at 8:29 a.m., reference a report of damage to the traffic light at this location. Officer found that an unknown semi-truck had struck and damaged the traffic light, while turning onto the northbound ramp from Pioneer Boulevard. Photographs of the damage and scene were taken.
Wanted person: Jan. 18 -- Officer made contact with a male with an active warrant out of Mesquite Municipal Court at 11:34 a.m.. The male was arrested and booked into the Mesquite Detention Center on Hillside Drive.
Missing person: Jan. 18 -- Officer responded at 12:17 p.m. to an East Old Mill Road residence, reference a report of a runaway female juvenile. The mother of the juvenile said her 17 year old daughter, had gone to Texas without permission. The mother request the daughter be listed as a runaway.
Trespassing: Jan. 18 -- Officers were dispatched at 3:52 p.m. to the Virgin River Casino on East Pioneer Boulevard, reference a trespass violator. Security requested to sign a citation against the subject for trespass violation. The subject was issued a citation and released with a court date.
Traffic accident with damage: Jan. 18 -- Officers responded at 6:27 p.m. to an accident at the Virgin River Casino parking lot. A driver information exchange form was completed by both vehicle owners involved and both vehicles were operable.
Trespassing: Jan. 18 -- Officers responded at 9:49 p.m. to the Virgin River Casino in regards to a trespassed subject. The subject was intoxicated, became disorderly and refused to leave the casino. The subject was arrested for breach of peace and trespassing.
Agency assistance: Jan. 18 -- Officers were dispatched to a Second South Street residence at 10:09 p.m. to assist medical personnel with an adult female subject who was not breathing. Upon arrival, the female subject was found to be deceased.
Controlled substance problem: Jan. 19 -- Officers conducted a traffic stop on I-15 at 1:28 a.m. on a northbound vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver was arrested for the open container and possession of marijuana.
Minor gambling: Jan. 19 -- Officer responded at 11:27 a.m. to the Virgin River Casino reference a possible minor gambling. Officer spoke with male subject and after a brief investigation discovered the male was of legal age.
Petit Larceny: Jan. 19 -- Officers responded to a 6 p.m. shoplifting call at a North Sandhill Boulevard grocery store. After a brief investigation a female received a citation for petit larceny and was released with a court date.
Person on foot: Jan. 19 -- Officers contacted an intoxicated male on the side of the roadway at 6:35 p.m. Officers observed the male throwing an alcoholic container on to the roadway. The male subject was arrested for littering.
Traffic accident with damage: Jan. 19 -- An officer was dispatched to a Green Way residence at 7:23 p.m., in reference to a single-vehicle traffic accident, with no injuries. The driver stated she had become distracted and ran over a street sign, damaging her vehicle and the sign, near her home. The driver completed a driver’s exchange form to exchange her insurance information for the damage to the sign.
Property Damage, Non Vandalism: Jan. 19 -- An officer was dispatched at 10:40 p.m. to a convenience store on West Mesquite Boulevard, in reference to an employee's vehicle, which had three tires flattened.
