Editor’s note: The following was taken from the pages of the Mesquite Police Department blotter for July 15-21. Individuals listed here should be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Suspicious/person: July 15 -- Officers were dispatched to assist a Mesquite citizen remove her intoxicated friend from her Santa Theresa Way residence. The intoxicated person left the residence without incident.
Juvenile problem: July 15 -- Officer met with concerned guardians at the police department lobby regarding their juvenile daughter violating curfew. Officer informed the couple of the laws reference curfew violations.
Mental person: July 15 -- Officers responded to a Hermosa Way residence for a unknown problem. After making contact and evaluation the complainant was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Controlled substance problem: July 15 -- Officers responded to a Palos Verdes Circle residence for a report of possible illegal drug activity. Following an investigation, an adult male was arrested on inhalant charges.
Burglary: July 15 -- Officer responded to a Silver Road residence reference a report of a attempted burglary/property damage, where the homeowner discovered damage done to their rear sliding glass door. The burglar did not gain entry, but bent part of the doorframe. The attempt burglary matches the area and modus operandi used by a recent offender who has since been arrested.
Theft: July15 -- Officers respond to a East Pioneer Boulevard casino, reference luggage being stolen off a parked car on E. Pioneer Boulevard. Officer retrieved necessary information for a crime report. There are no known suspects or witnesses at this time. Investigation continues.
Hit and run: July 16 -- An officer responded to a East Pioneer Boulevard parking lot for a hit-and-run vehicle report. A report was taken and an investigation by casino security is ongoing.
Domestic trouble: July 16 -- Officers responded to a Mesa Boulevard residence for a domestic battery complaint, after an investigation two adults were taken into custody.
Traffic accident without injury: July 16 -- Officer responded to a local parking lot on North Sandhill Boulevard for a report of an accident that had occurred in a intersection. Information and photographs obtained. No injuries and vehicles were driven away by owners.
Abuse/neglect: July 16 -- A Mesquite police officer received a telephone call about a juvenile issue from another state. An investigation was begun in reference to a possible crime that was reported to have happened in 2005 in Mesquite.
Unknown problem: July 17 -- Officers responded to an Osprey Street residence reference a 911 hang up. Officers arrived and discovered one of the elderly occupants was irritated with the caregiver for his wife. Subject was warned about trying to intimidate people taking care of his wife.
Driving under the influence: July 17 -- An officer responded to the Interstate 15 southbound off-ramp to attempt to locate a reckless vehicle. Officer located the vehicle at the state line and conducted a traffic stop for several traffic-related violations. Following an investigation, the driver was arrested for DUI.
Disorderly conduct: July 17 -- Officers responded to a local casino on West Mesquite Boulevard to assist casino security in removing an intoxicated male subject, who had been trespassed. The intoxicated male subject refused to leave and was disorderly and combative with officers and casino security. Officer transported the intoxicated male to the Mesquite Detention Center, where he was charged with resisting arrest, breach of peace, and trespassing.
Wanted person: July 18 -- Officer responded to a local casino on East Pioneer Boulevard, reference a highly intoxicated female adult reporting to be involved in a verbal domestic dispute. During the course of the investigation it was discovered the female had a no-bail, municipal warrant and was arrested for such. The domestic dispute was discovered to be unfounded.
Stolen property: July 18 -- Officer responded to a North Grapevine Road housing apartment complex, reference a report of a UPS package that was stolen from his front porch. Information is being obtained concerning the package and the incident is under investigation.
Suspicious person/circumstance: July 18 -- Officers were dispatched to the southbound on -ramp of Interstate 15 at Falcon Ridge Parkway, in reference to an adult female lying near the roadway. It was later determined this subject was lying near the roadway to attract attention from passing motorist for hitchhiking purposes. After being warned twice, this subject continued to return to the area and lay near the roadway, causing traffic to stop on the on-ramp. This subject was taken into custody for pedestrian shall not solicit ride or business.
Traffic stop: July 18 -- Officers conducted a traffic stop on a local citizen at Second South Street and Shade Tree Lane. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for exhibition of speed, unlicensed driver and drug paraphernalia.
Burglary: July 19 -- Police responded to a possible burglary at a Mesa Boulevard residence. Multiple coins were missing from the residence. A report was taken for the incident and officers are currently attempting to locate the suspect(s).
Traffic accident with damage: July 19 -- Police responded to a North Sandhill Boulevard gas station for an accident report. While completing the investigation, the responding officer discovered one of the drivers involved in the accident was intoxicated.
Reckless driver: July 19 -- Police were called to a local gas station to investigate a DUI. The individual in questioned appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Subject was arrested on DUI and drug paraphernalia charges.
Suspicious person/circumstance: July 19 -- Officer responded to the CasaBlanca Casino on West Mesquite Boulevard for a report of a suspicious circumstance, located at the swimming pool area of the casino. Officer spoke with a woman with concerns of a adult male yelling at and telling her grandson son he had to leave the pool area. Casino security had handled the incident prior to the arrival of police.
Controlled substance problem: July 19 -- Officer responded to a Riverside Road residence reference physical violence between two roommates. Officers later arrested one of the subjects involved for inhaling chemicals not for human consumption.
Theft: July 20 -- Officers were dispatched to a local convenience store on West Mesquite Boulevard, in reference to an unidentified adult male who had walked out of the store, without paying for two packs of beer. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Suspicious person/circumstance: July 20 -- Officers located a suspicious vehicle in a local store parking lot on North Sandhill Boulevard. One of the four occupants received a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia. Domestic trouble: July 20 -- Police responded to a domestic dispute at a local casino. One male adult stated his girlfriend of 10 years hit him in the face. The female had left in an unknown direction and officers were unable to locate her. A report was taken for the incident.
Domestic trouble: July 20 -- Officers responded to a Valley View Drive residence for a report of a possible domestic dispute between tw adults. Officers investigated the incident and determined it was a verbal altercation only about civil issues.
Domestic trouble: July 20 -- Officer responded to a West Mesquite Boulevard residence reference a possible domestic battery. Officer is currently investigating the incident.
Petit larceny: July 20 -- Officers responded to a West Pioneer Boulevard store for a report of a petit larceny.
Burglary: July 20 -- Police responded to a burglary in progress at a Mesa Boulevard residence. A witness observed a male adult attempting to pry open a window. The suspect had fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. A report was taken for the incident. Investigation continues.
Theft: July 20 -- Received a telephone call from a female living in Utah, reporting that the license plate was stolen from her camp trailer while it was being repaired at a business in Mesquite. Information was taken and the reported theft is being investigated.
Wanted person: July 20 -- A convicted sex offender was arrested at a West Mesquite Boulevard location for failing to complete his annual verification.
Traffic accident without injury: July 20 -- Officer witnessed a vehicle strike a light poleat Rodeo Lane and Second South Street and leave the scene of the accident. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested for DUI and other traffic charges.
Fighting: July 21 -- Mesquite police officers responded to the Eureka Casino on Mesa Boulevard, reference a fight between three adult males in the lounge area of the casino. Upon officers' arrival, casino security had separated the involved parties. Involved parties requested and signed citations for Bbattery upon each other. Each involved party was cited and released with a court date.
Disorderly Conduct: July 21 -- Officers were dispatched to a local casino on West Mesquite Boulevard, in reference to a disorderly subject. This subject was later trespassed from that casino, and then arrested, after he refused to leave the property.
Transport: July 21 -- An adult subject, who had been taken into custody on North Sandhill Boulevard for misdemeanor charges and was being transported to the local detention center, spit on the transporting officer. This subject was later charged with felony battery on an officer.
Stolen Property: July 21 -- Officer took a report of a stolen cellular phone, which was stolen at the Eureka Casino on Mesa Boulevard.
Controlled substance problem: July 21 -- Officer responded to the Eureka Casino on Mesa Boulevard, reference found bag containing drug paraphernalia. Officer recovered the items and booked the items into the Mesquite evidence vault.
