Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jorge Duran-Chavez, 36, of West Valley, Utah, early Wednesday (10/24) afternoon. Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 74 miles per hour in a posted 55 MPH zone.
Approximately 1:30 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 15 at milepost 19. The driver identified himself as Duran-Chavez with a Utah learners permit. Deputies observed Duran-Chavez was driving by himself and the permit indicated that another license driver was
required while Duran-Chavez was operating the vehicle. Duran-Chavez was taken into custody for operating a vehicle in violation of a restriction.
A search of the vehicle revealed a Mexico passport without the appropriate stamps. With the assistance of Border Patrol, Duran-Chavez was determined to be an illegal immigrant. Duran-Chavez was taken into custody and transported to the Mesquite Jail with a license violation and a Border Patrol hold. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
