Mesquite’s Seventh Annual Western Roundup is scheduled Feb. 22-23.
Local poets Russ Westwood, Barb King, Wanda Eckhardt, Lee Kimberlin, Hap Stuart and Bill Taylor will be joined onstage by well-known Marlene Bussma from Dammeron Valley, Utah, and Ken Marshall from Logandale, to recite their brand of cowboy poetry and stories
Russ Westwood is the local director of the Roundup and nationally known Stan Corliss, from Hillsboro, Ore., is to be the featured master of ceremonies and performer for the event to be held at the Mesquite Community Theatre, 150 N. Yucca St. The Friday performance is at 7 p.m., with the matinee slated 1 p.m. on Saturday. The shows are sponsored by the Mesquite Arts Council and by local businesses.
Also making an appearance will be Rebecca Dunne, Miss Wilderness Circuit Queen, of Las Vegas. She is a barrel racer and represents Utah, Idaho and Nevada in her travels. Dunne is a flag carrier for the Annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
Chloe’ Louise Powell, Miss Helldorado Rodeo Las Vegas, will represent the Western Lifestyle. Her passion is horseback riding and she encourages everyone to embrace their Western Heritage.
In addition to this talent, returning are the Mesquite Strings ‘n Things Western Band, the Mesquite Toes Clogging Tap Team and the Mesquite Show Girls. The local Boy Scouts and veterans will post the colors.
Tickets are $10 at the door one hour before the show and will be good for door prizes. Raffle tickets are also available for some good items, such as western art. Tickets can be bought at the theater’s box office, 4-7 p.m., Thursdays and Friday; and 9 a.m. -noon on Saturdays. Other ticket locations are: Roots Hair Salon, Klasik Kloset Boutique, Mesquite Fine Arts Center and the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce.
