With Tuesday night’s wondrous lightning show came a side effect that happens occasionally, a power outage.
At 2:40 a.m. lightning struck one of the main power substations that supplies power to about 1/3 of Mesquite, shutting off power to all residences and businesses on that line. Bunkerville was also affected by the outage. Other parts of Mesquite, such as Sun City, were not affected because they are on other substations.
Thankfully, with the quick response of the Overton Power District, crews were able to restore power at 4:00 a.m., keeping the time without power to a short hour and twenty minutes.
“We are very proud of our crews,” said OPD Manager Keith Buckhalter. “The conditions were severely dangerous, but they got the job done and without any additional problems.”
