League of Women Voters slate candidate meeting

The League of Women Voters of Mesquite (LWVM) plans to host a meet-and-greet evening with the candidates on Oct. 3 at the Eureka Casino in the Canyon Room, 5:30-7 p.m.

“This is the time to come and meet them and ask them some questions,” said Karen Beardsley of the LMVM. “There will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.”

Among the invited candidates are: Karen Beausoleil and Ryan Toone, who are running to become the Mesquite Township Justice of the Peace for the six-year term.

Incumbent Virgin Valley Water District Director Ted Miller and challenger Bill Tanner are scheduled. That’s a two-year term.

Two years also is the term for the Nevada Assembly. Incumbent Cresent Hardy and Felipe Rodriguez have been invited to the meeting.

Incumbent Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins and his challengers Ruth Johnson and Warren Markowitz will be explaining to voters why they should be elected for the next four years.

The candidates for Clark County School District B Trustee, Christine Garvey and Rose Moore, are also to attend, as are the four candidates running for U.S. Congressional District 4: Steven Horsford, Danny Tarkanian, Floyd Fitzgibbons and Joe Silvestri.

“The League sends each candidate two questions in a letter,” Beardsley added. “We print up their answers in our Voters Guide, along with a resume so you can read about their back grounds and what they think about the job they want to win.”

Candidates for Clark County Judge offices also may attend, Beardsley said. “This is your opportunity to talk with each one and ask questions. The League has field registrars that will also be there for anyone that would like to register to vote.”
