City council takes to the road today

You may notice city officials riding around town in a bus this morning.

It's an official, mobile meeting of the Mesquite City Council. The mayor and councilmen are being given a tour of various Mesquite sites which may come up for discussion during future council meetings.

They include: The proposed Exit 118 area to the west of town; the Mesquite Sports & Event Center, the proposed site for a new cemetery, as well as the current site; the East Mesquite Boulevard levy; the site for the Bunkerville water diversion project; and historic buildings with historic value worthy of being preserved and buildings which should be demolished.

The tour is to begin at Mesquite Fire Station No. 3, 3 John Deere Road, at 8:30 a.m.

There will be limited room on the bus for news media and other interested persons.

But if you don’t attend the on-board meeting, you still can meet with the Mesquite City Manager next week. Andy Barton will hold another of his "coffees," an open forum when citizens can ask him questions and he explains city issues. Next week's "coffee" is scheduled for 8 a.m., Thursdays, Nov. 8, at The Pioneer Center in Sun City Mesquite, 1350 Flat Top Mesa Dr.
