A 30-year-old Sioux Falls, S.D., prison escapee is being held in the Mesquite Detention Center after he was arrested Sunday, Oct. 7, in Beaver Dam, Ariz.
Timothy Cohoon faces Arizona charges of eluding a police officer, assault and resisting arrest, as well as a felony warrant from South Dakota.
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Beaver Dam Station in the 400 block of Highway 91 Sunday evening. A woman employee said a man named Tim, who lived in a trailer behind the bar, had struck her in the chest when she told him to leave the premises.
The deputies found the man sitting outside the trailer. But when he saw them, he fled down a pathway toward a parking lot. The deputies lost sight of him and began to search. They saw two parked semi-trailers with their back doors open. Cohoon was hiding in one behind some debris.
Cohoon was told to stand up and face away, but he refused. The deputies resorted to a taser to take Cohoon into custody. An Arizona Highway Patrol officer assisted and Cohoon received medical attention from a Beaver Dam medical unit.
During a record check, the deputies learned that South Dakota authorities had issued a felony warrant on Cohoon on July 11, 2012, after he fled from a prison work release program there.
