Mesquite Elk’s Lodge #2811 began their annual Dictionary Program Wednesday delivering dictionaries to third grade classes at Beaver Dam Elementary School. Seven Elks, including ‘Elroy the Elk,’ handed out dictionaries to Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Reyes' third grade classes.

The students were quite excited when entering the room and seeing mascot ‘Elroy’.

Elk Officer Charlie Lumkee explained the program to the young students and how important the dictionary is to them in their education and growth. He also explained to them that they were receiving ruler book marks and ‘Dog Tags’ that emphasized a drug free life commitment.

Lumkee took many questions from the third graders as their quizzical minds wandered from the dictionaries to who ‘Elroy’ is. Lumkee explained that ‘Elroy’ is our Drug Awareness Mascot.

The children thanked the Elks for their generosity and how much they liked ‘Elroy’.

The Dictionary Program tour will continue with visits to schools in Mesquite, Bunkerville, Logandale and Overton in the next two weeks. The Elks will deliver approximately 400 dictionaries and drug awareness info to the schools.
