Mesquite called, and Southern Nevada answered.  Early this year the Virgin Valley Artists Association invited area art guilds to join in a joint exhibition at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery.   No fees, few rules—they were just asked to bring their best original fine art to Mesquite and share wall space with fellow Nevada artists.   The resulting show is a visual delight.  Showing October 1 through November 3, the “Mesquite Fine Art Invitational Exhibition” samples the commonalities and the diversities of rural and urban, recreational and professional artist, representational and abstract subject, to name a few of the qualities that are shown in the display of over 150 entries. Participating visual arts organizations include Boulder City Art Guild, Left of Center Gallery of North Las Vegas, Moapa Valley Art Guild of Logandale-Overton, Spring Mountain Art Guild of Pahrump, and Virgin Valley Artists Association of Mesquite. Local businesswoman Kelly Smith of Edward Jones is the local sponsor underwriting the exhibition.

October is ARTS Month in Mesquite, and the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery invites all to come to Mesquite and celebrate the positive impact that self-expression and the arts have on the lives of citizens of a free society.  The artists participating in the gallery exhibition will be on hand Satuday, October 13, at 1pm to “meet and greet” other artists and gallery visitors to talk about their art and their home guilds and galleries.  Gallery admission is free; all artwork is available for purchase.

Adding to the excitement, Mesquite is holding Gold Butte Days Festival October 12-13. The festival spotlights Mesquite’s outdoor recreation assets and proximity to Gold Butte, a breathtaking expanse of 350,000 acres of uninhabited public land.  The downtown street festival celebrates outdoor fun for the entire family, featuring free live entertainment, a half-marathon and 5k trail run, over 70 vendor booths, a food court and beer garden, pioneer walking tour of Mesquite, cowboy poetry recitation and much more.  The festival is spearheaded by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce and is centered at City Hall parking lot on  Mesquite Boulevard in the center of town.   Festival hours: October 12, 3p-7p., and all day October 13 starting with the trail run at 8am, with vendor and food booths and entertainment open 9a-5p.  Big band music lovers can also take in a live big band concert at the Mesquite Community Theatre both evenings of the festival. .  Information about the Mesquite events can be found at www.goldbuttedaysfestival.com, www.Mesquite-Chamber.com, or www.mesquitefineartscenter.com. The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is located at 15 West Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite, Nevada, phone 702-346-1338.  Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10a to 4pm, with extended hours on festival weekend.
