The inaugural Mesquite Arts Council “Festival of Books” is to be held Dec. 14-15 at Virgin Valley Elementary School, 200 Woodbury Lane in Mesquite.
Events are to begin on Friday, Dec. 14, at noon with a reception for the authors at the Mesquite Public Library. Children at all three area elementary schools, Virgin Valley, Bowler and Beaver Dam, will be invited to dress as their favorite book character and the costumes will be judged at the schools at 2 p.m. by visiting judges.
The Virgin Valley Elementary Choir is to perform at the opening activities of the
festival at the school at 4 p.m.
Speakers and workshops will follow until 8 p.m. on Friday and resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Speakers and workshops will continue until 6 p.m. when the festival will finish final presentations. There are 20 authors from four states being featured over the two days.
Attendees will have an opportunity to hear them speak about their work, give a variety of workshops about the craft of writing, and the authors will be available to sell and sign copies of their books.
People interested in attending may pre-register and sign-up for specific workshops during the Festival of Trees that runs Nov. 28-Dec. 1 at the CasaBlanca Event Center.
Look for the Mesquite Arts Council Book Tree at the festival. On-site registration will also be available the days of the book fair.
