Need a new hobby? The Virgin Valley Artists Association is offering sculpting and pottery workshops in January that may be just what you want. The VVAA Pottery Studio is located at the Mesquite Campus, Room 30, 150 N. Yucca St. Hours of operation are available at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, as well as hours for the supply outlet in Room 31 where pottery and art class materials and tools can be purchased.
Scheduled workshops include:
Jan. 7-10, 1-3 p.m.: Eric Isenberg offers a series of four workshops on the basics of sculpting human facial features. There’s $100 instruction fee plus tools, clay, firing and glazes. Isenberg specializes in Native American arts, and has examples of his sculptures on display at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery. Sign up at the gallery, pay instructor first day of class.
Jan 8, 9 a.m.-noon and all Tuesdays: Cheri Vincent teaches a series of classes on ancient skills of hand building pottery. The cost is $50 each class. Sign up in advance at gallery or pottery studio. Bring pottery tools to class.

Jan 7, 9 a.m.-noon: Koko teaches construction of clay box. There’s a $15 instruction fee.
Jan 14, 1-4 p.m.: Char Lang teaches building a footed bowl and attachments. Instruction fee is $15.
Jan 21, 1-4 p.m.: Char Lang teaches how to build a “simply scraffito tray.” Instruction fee is $15.
Jan 28, 9 a.m.-noon: Koko teaches how to build a birdhouse. There’s a $15 instruction fee.
