Brown Bag series features Spike Ress

Western artist Spike Ress will be the guest speaker at the Virgin Valley Artists Association noontime Brown Bag lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 4 in the fine arts classroom at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, 15 W. Mesquite Blvd.

Ress will be demonstrating and discussing his techniques for painting landscapes and Western scenes with oils and watercolors.

Ress, born in Long Island, N.Y., paints scenes found mostly in the western United States, although you will find paintings of scenes in Mexico, Portugal and Spain scattered throughout his collection.

His works have been shown in such diverse locations as the Charles M. Russell Museum, Great Falls, Mont.; Southern Utah Museum of Art, Cedar City, Utah; Total Arts Gallery, Taos, N.M.; and in public and corporate collections such as Dean Witter, Salt Lake City, Utah; United Bank of Brighton, Colorado; and Phillips Petroleum, Bartlesville, Okla.. He has taught at Southern Utah University and Brigham Young University as a guest artist and special instructor of art.
