‘Go for Gold Butte’ photo and art winners announced

The "Go for Gold Butte" art and photo contests were sponsored by the Virgin Valley Artists Association as part of the upcoming Gold Butte Days Festival activities.

Artwork and photos will be used to create publicity and posters for the street festival to be held Oct. 12-13 in Mesquite.

The art and photos are to be displayed at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, 15 W. Mesquite Blvd., and the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce office, 12 W. Mesquite Blvd.

The art work and photos were judged Monday by a five-person panel: Cindy Delaney, Barbara Ellestad, Kathy Lee, Mike Donahue and Kent Harper.

The judges were not aware of who took the photos or produced the artwork.

The Gold Ribbon winner in the photo contest, which included a $100 prize, was "Joshua Bows to Beauty" a digital photo, taken with a Kodak C360 camera by photographer Linda Faas.

The Gold Ribbon winner in the art contest, which also included a $100 prize, was "Gold Butte Signposts" a watercolor/mixed media work by artist Char Lang.

Honorable mention winners in the photo contest included photos by Bunny Wiseman, Judith Hetem and Terri Rylander.

Honorable mention winners in the art contest included the work of Lang, Maya Farber and Geraldine Zarate.
