Tasha Gorman has joined the writing staff of the Mesquite Local News.
Gorman has been a resident of Southern Nevada for the past four years. She lived in Moapa Valley before moving to Mesquite in 2011.
Born in Fort Madison, Iowa, Gorman spent her early years in Missouri. She attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., where she received her degree in journalism.
Shortly after graduating from college, Gorman married and started her family. She lived in Colorado for 11 years. During that time her husband completed his family practice residency and joined a medical group. Wanting a smaller community and a change of pace, they moved to Logandale in 2008.
“We came to Mesquite nearly every weekend and liked that it had a little more to offer. It’s a beautiful community; my parents live here and my husband loves to golf, so Mesquite was a perfect fit for us,” Gorman said.
Gorman was a regular writer for the Moapa Valley Progress and looks forward to contributing to the Mesquite Local News. She hopes to bring a new feature to the newspaper occasionally.
“I’ve always loved writing. I had great teachers in high school and college that really motivated me,” Gorman explained. “I was that kid in school who always liked the essay part of a test because I liked writing.”
Gorman is excited to be a part of the Mesquite community and to get to know it better.
“Since I’ve lived here for more than a year, I have gotten to know a lot of people. Everyone is friendly. It definitely has the small-town feel where everyone helps one another.”
Gorman’s husband, Mike, is a family practice physician that recently joined Mesa View Medical Group. She has three daughters: twins that are 12 and a 5-year-old.
Gorman also assists with On Beat Dance Company’s media and fundraising, as her daughters are on the competition team there.
A self-described “crazy cat lady,” Gorman enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, watching movies, the TV show “Dance Moms” and Starbuck’s venti iced chai teas.
