Different communities have their own unique ways of celebrating St. Patrick's Day.

In Savannah, Georgia, the river is turned green as part of the second largest St. Patrick's celebration in the country.

Ditto for the river in Chicago.

On the south side of Boston, a raucous parade winds through the city.

The same will happen in New York City and dozens of other communities across the country.

In Mesquite, the only way the Virgin River will be turning green is if there's an unexpected algae bloom.

Also, the parade which works its way down Sanhill Blvd. and onto Mesquite Blvd. won't involve marching bands or decorated floats.

But it will be a party atmosphere just the same, as the community celebrates the wearin' o' the green with the annual St. Patrick's Day Walk.

The walk is a traveling party that makes pit stops at various watering holes in Mesquite, allowing people to celebrate the Irish while meeting and making new friends along the way.

"It's just so much fun, with big groups from different places getting together," said Kathleen Goode, one of the organizers of the annual trek.

"Everyone just talks and parties," Goode said. "It's just one big talkathon. You make so many new friends."

It was the chance to meet people and make new friends which drew Goode to her first celebration soon after moving to Mesquite in 2005.

She's been involved in organizing the party ever since.

This year's walk will begin on Wednesday, March 17 around 9:30 a.m. when people begin gathering at the 19th Hole on El Dorado.

Around 10 a.m., the walk will head just down the street to the next stop at the Eureka Casino.

There, revelers clad in green and grins will have a few libations at the casino's back bar, then will move to the Eureka's front bar.

The gathering will then head outside with the Virgin River Casino in their sites.

Once arriving at the 'Riv, walkers will begin with a visit to the bar at the Virgin Lanes bowling center before progressing to the main bar in the casino.

From there, the long walk begins, allowing partiers to enjoy the great outdoors on their way to the next bar.

"We'll make a stop along the way," Goode said.

Once upon a time, that midway stop was the Corner Bar, where Sandhill meets Mesquite Blvd.

The Corner Bar is long gone, meaning walkers will have a little extra hoofing to do before reaching the Golden West.

After resting, recharging, and refueling, the group will head on to the final destination, the Stateline Casino.

There, partygoers will be treated to food, libations, and an opportunity to regale fellow travelers with their tales of Irish glory and the day's adventure.

Once the party winds down, organizers will arrange to have revelers returned to their vehicles at the 19th Hole.

For those who have partaken of too much Irish spirit, transportation will be arranged to take local partiers home.

The walk costs $20 per person, which covers beer, sodas, and well drinks at each stop along the way.

Everyone is encouraged to wear green for the event.
