Who would have ever thought that the Bulldogs game with the Pirates would not be a battle for the 3A Sunrise League Championship and number one seed for the play offs. The 8-1 Pirates were to face the supposedly 8-1 Bulldogs on October 19, but all that was changed as the Dawgs were upset by Sunrise Mountain 28-18. Despite being eliminated from the playoffs, the Bulldogs pride is on the line against the heavily favored Pirates from Moapa Valley. The Pirates offer a balanced attack that has put up 2842 yards for the season, 1794 yards on the ground and 1048 through the air. Leading the Pirates attack are, quarterback Luke Bennett who has passed for 12 touchdowns and a trio of running backs. Braeden St. John leads the pack with 604 yards and 13 T.D.s followed by Trystan Lehman with 411 yards with 6 T.D.s to his credit. Their third running back Hayden Redd has added 368 yards to the Pirates running stable. The Pirates defeated Sunrise Mountain and Boulder City by scores of, 48-6 and 30-7 respectively, while the Dawgs lost. Motivation is the common plus for this rivalry, as seasons have been made with defeats by either side. For the Dawgs, to win this game, they will have to contain Bennett and his stable of runners plus give their own banged up runners holes to keep drives going. The Dawgs will be counting on workhorse Wyatt Delano and Meb Hollingshead to keep drives going to keep the Pirates off the field. Whichever way it goes, it should be a battle of the Valleys.
