Board members received NRECA Board Leadership Certifications

Overton Power District No. 5 Board of Trustees Jack Nelson, Mike Young, and Judy Metz were recognized at the last board meeting held on Oct. 17, in Mesquite for successfully completing the National Rural Electric Association (NRECA) courses and receiving their NRECA Board Leadership Certifications.

NRECA provides various levels of training for directors. The NRECA Board Leadership Program (BLC), is the second part of the director education program and it requires the completion of a series of courses focusing in greater depth on specific industry and governance issues. These include issues such as:

  • Risk management
  • Power supply
  • Parliamentary procedure
  • Technology and policy development

Directors must first obtain the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate and then complete a total of 10 additional training credits for the advanced Board Leadership Certification.

Mendis Cooper, Overton Power District No. 5 General Manager said, “This program takes a lot of time and commitment to complete, showing the dedication of our board to the District and their communities.”
