Vera in Nana’s Naughty Knickers

I’ve been out of the loop for a bit but boy it’s good to be back in the theater! The Virgin Valley Theatre Group has asked me to direct Neil Simon’s ‘The Sunshine Boys’ and I said, “Yes.”

The Sunshine Boys is about Al and Willie. As “Lewis and Clark” Al and Willie were top-billed vaudevillians for over forty years. Now they aren’t even speaking. When CBS requests them for a “History of Comedy” retrospective, a grudging reunion brings the two back together, along with a flood of memories, miseries, and laughs.

That’s a start for them, and a bit about the show for you…but now I need some actors, how about helping me out? How? Show up for auditions on Sept. 22 & 23 at 5 p.m. at the Mesquite Community Theatre, 150 N. Yucca St. (Green Room); I’ll be there.

Please be prepared with five jokes, three short jokes and two that tell a story. Along with the jokes, there will be script material, of my choice, that you will be asked to read.

I’m only looking for the three principal players at this point. The parts are pretty big for the three roles and it may be a good thing to give you a bit more time with the script, and each other, before we begin a regular audition schedule later this year.

Rebecca Jones as Agnes and Teri Nehrenz as Dr. Livingston in Agnes of God

Don’t worry ladies; I’ll be looking for you a bit later on along with two more men and surly in enough time for you to learn your parts.

The shows are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 18, 25 and Feb. 1, Saturday Jan 19, 26 and Feb. 2, 2018 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Jan. 20 and 27, 2018 at 2 p.m.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve 10 years’ experience with the Virgin Valley Theatre Group six as their Artistic Director and two as their President, have directed a half a dozen plays, acted in three times that many, one professional show, built and designed a dozen sets and have even worked as a Teaching Artist for Disney and the Smith Center for the Performing Arts so I know a little bit about theater and a lot about what ours can produce; it’s been some good stuff.

Thelma in Fly Willie

If you don’t have theater experience, don’t worry, I’ll be looking more for how you well you can deliver a joke, timing and of course the chemistry between the actors; remember, Al and Willie were once top Vaudeville comics.

I hope I’ll be seeing you at the audition; bring your sense of humor and be ready to have a little fun. For more information on the audition or The Sunshine Boys, you can contact me at terin.bbm@gmail.com; please put “AUDITIONS” in the subject line.
