The evening of Saturday, Sept. 29 is fast approaching when people of all ages can walk or run for a good cause.  Mesquite Rotary Club will be hosting its Second Annual 5K Fun Run behind the Rising Star Sports Ranch beginning at 7p.m. Entry fee is $35 per participant or $120 for a team of four.  If you didn’t pre-register at the Mesquite Recreation Center on or before Sept. 22, you can check in on the evening of the event for $5 more.  Check-in begins at 5:30 pm.

Everyone is encouraged to come and help the night “glow” with a neon t-shirt for each participant to wear and glow sticks for the run.  Photos will be taken, food and drinks available for sale by the BDHS Interact Club, along with music filling the air with your favorite “tunes” courtesy of DJ Fuego and DJ #Juan.

Immediately following the Glow Run will be Rotary’s Twelfth Annual Glow in The Dark Golf Ball drop where entrants could win some wonderful prizes and a chance at the grand prize of $1,000 cash!  Tickets for the ball drop are $20 each or six for $100 and may be purchased in advance through a Mesquite Rotary member or at the event.

Proceeds from these events benefit the Mesquite Reads Program which strives to have all Third grade children reading by grade level, Special Olympics, Virgin Valley Food Bank, Day Springs Youth Ranch, high school scholarships and other youth initiatives.  Rotary also sends Eighth grade students to Teen Leadership Camp (TLC) and high school Juniors to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp each year in California.

Rotary is also a proud sponsor of the Safety Officer’s Award Recognition (SOAR) program which takes place annually when a deserving representative from both the police and fire departments is recognized for his or her outstanding service in the community.  Rotary Clubs around Clark County bestow this recognition on their local first responders during a ceremony at the Las Vegas City Hall.

With more that 1.3 million members and 35,000+ clubs worldwide, Rotary members strive to support their local communities and programs around the world.  Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self” is the foundation of what Rotary is all about.

Mesquite Rotary Club meets at noon every Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express.  Please join us and learn how you can be of service to others.
