June temperatures may have been sizzling in Mesquite, but the number of visitors who basked in the hot summer sun fizzled with almost 7,000 fewer people than the year before.

According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority report, visitor volume in Mesquite fell 5.6 percent from 119,100 in June 2017 to 112,400 this year. That’s the biggest drop in visitor counts of all reporting areas in Clark County.

Laughlin’s visitor volume increased 1.8 percent while Las Vegas saw a 1.1 percent decline in visitors. The LVCVA attributed the drop “due in part to the movement of Electric Daisy Carnival from June in 2017 to May in 2018.”

Mesquite’s visitor volume for the first six months of 2018 is down 1.1 percent, or 7,800 people, in a year-to-year comparison.

The upside of LVCVA’s June report for Mesquite is that gross gaming revenues jumped 10.3 percent, the biggest percentage increase in Clark County. Local gaming venues took in $9.464 million in June compared to $8.577 million last year.
