The Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs face another challenge this week when they host the Dragons from Del Sol High School. The Dawgs hope to protect their #1 rating in the Nevada Preps top Southern Nevada 3A teams. The Dawgs have jumped on two 3A teams early and held on through staunch defensives in the fourth period to stay unbeaten. Tailback Wyatt Delano has been the workhorse for the Bulldogs along with quarterback Mebs Hollingshead. Delano leads Bulldogs rushers with 169 yards in two games. Hollingshead has passed for 360 yards through two games with Dave Carson being his primary receiver. The defense has been solid when needed but must clean up their mistakes.

Meanwhile the Dragons have had a Jekyll and Hyde finish the past two games. The Dragons were blown out in their season opener by Desert Oasis 44-13. It was the first D.O. win in their last 13 games. The Dragons did an about face and crushed Bulldog league opponent Sunrise Mountain 36-0 in their last outing. The Dragons are big, quick and very athletic. Quarterback Andre Nevarez put up big numbers in the win over the Miners going 16 of 24 passes for 387 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore speedster Maalick Flowers was on the end of two T.D. Nevarez passes and gained 159 yards on only 4 receptions. The Bulldogs will have to contain the other Dragon speedster Trey Alexander who rushed for 163 yards on only 14 carries. To win this game the Bulldogs will need to control the ball and not allow the Dragons rushers much distance beyond their linebackers. The Dragons will attempt to go for quick long strikes freeing their receivers on short down and outs hoping to break them free for long gainers. It should be a heck of a game and tune up for, 3A Sunrise league play.
