Mesquite Police Resolve Dangerous Incident Involving Barricaded Suspect

On July 19  at approximately 2:40 p.m., Mesquite Police received information about a fight occurring inside a residence located on Sandbar Street. Upon arriving on scene, officers learned that a male suspect, who was still inside the residence, had possibly fired a handgun and pointed the handgun at another person inside. Officer immediately began making the area safe for neighbors and bystanders while attempting to make contact with the suspect. Officers were also made aware the suspect had an active felony warrant for his arrest. The Mesquite SWAT team also responded and was involved at the scene. A Mesquite Police negotiator was able to communicate with the suspect, and after approximately three hours of negotiating, the suspect voluntary came outside the residence and was safely taken into custody by awaiting officers.

Officers then entered the residence and confirmed there were no injured persons inside. Mesquite Police are in the beginning stages of investigating what occurred in the home. Once their investigation is completed, formal criminal charges will be filed. All residents in the area are safe and have returned to their homes. Further details on this incident will be released by the Mesquite Police Department, once the investigation is completed. The suspect, Zachary Bartee, 35, of Mesquite Nevada, is currently in custody on an arrest warrant for felony probation violation. Further charges are pending.
