Easton Jensen, who played both football and baseball at Virgin Valley High this past school year, signed a national letter of intent recently to continue playing both sports at the next level for Cornell College.
The private liberal arts school which is located in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, competes at the NCAA Division III level and is a member of the 10-team Midwest Conference. The school has an enrollment of just over 1,000.
Jensen, who plans to major in Computer Science Engineering, will compete as a defensive back in football and as a utility player for baseball.
The Rams finished with an overall record of 4-6 on the football field last season while the baseball team went 17-20 overall and 9-9 in conference play.
During his senior season at VVHS, Jensen had four interceptions on defense, including two against rival Moapa Valley. He also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown on special teams. Offensively, he caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Virgin Valley captured the Sunrise Conference title and reached the state 3A quarterfinals.
In baseball, Jensen played infield, outfield and pitched for the Bulldogs who reached the 3A South Regional semifinals.
Jensen batted .321 (26-for-81) with 18 singles, six doubles and two triples while scoring 31 runs and driving in 13. He drew 18 walks and stole 18 bases. On the mound, Jensen pitched in six games going 1-0 with an ERA of 1.35. In 10.1 innings, he struck out seven batters and walked two.
He received honorable mention for the All-Sunrise Conference team.
