An ‘Old Fashioned Bake Off’ has been a part of the Mesquite Days Old Fashioned Family Fun Night for several years. In the past there have been few participants and in 2017 there weren’t enough to even hold the competition but this year was very different.

The theme was ‘Cup Cake Wars’ and the participation soared to 23 entries this year. Entries were judged on presentation, decoration and flavor.  There were five categories: ‘Team (2-4) under 18’, ‘Team over 18’, ‘Individual under 18’,’Individual over 18’ and ‘Best Overall.’ The Eureka Casino and the Mesquite Recreation department provided the prizes for the winners.

The winners were: Ethan, Celia, Sybren and Karianne Wade for ‘Team under 18’ for their ‘Corn-on-the-Cob’ looking cupcakes that were actually made with lemon candies. ‘Team over 18’ category was won by Blair and Jaqueline Adams for a lemony bouquet of deliciousness decorated with flowers and fresh and artificial lemons.
