The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog softball team went 2-1 for the week of May 4. More importantly the 5-4 win over Chaparral on Wednesday May 2 tied the Cowboys for third play in Sunrise League play. The Dogs lost to first place Moapa Valley on Monday April 30 and defeated Lincoln County  on Thursday May3 in a non-league encounter.

Monday’s game against the Pirates was close for two innings with Moapa on top 4-1. The Pirates took advantage of Bulldog errors to score 8 runs in the top of the third inning to insure the 12-1 victory. Kylie Cannon led the Dogs with two hits. Savannah Price took the loss but only 3 of the 12 runs allowed were earned. Lady Dawg errors continue to haunt the Dogs.

Wednesday’s defeat of the Cowboys was a pitcher’s duel for four innings with the score 1-1. The Bulldogs jumped on the Cowboys in the fifth with 4 runs to take a 5-1 lead after five. Bulldog pitcher Price gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh and last inning before getting the final out to preserve the win.

Thursday’s matchup at Panaca against the host Lincoln County Lynx found the Dogs on top 7-6. Information on the game was limited.

VVHS opens 3A Southern Tournament play Tuesday May 8 at #2 Sunset League’s Cheyenne High School. The Desert Shields went 7-2 in League play and 9-5 overall. The winner of the game will play on Wednesday May 9 at 3:30 pm.
