The Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs men and women’s track teams competed in the annual Grant Bushman Invitational along with 19 other 1-A to 4A area high schools at Moapa Valley High School. This meet is an annual tune up for the 1-A, 2A and 3A schools which will also be held at the home of the Pirates beginning Friday May 11 at 1pm.

The Lady Dogs fared much better than the boys in the Invitational placing fourth out of 19 competitors. The Dogs scored 81.5 points trailing meet winner Moapa Valley with 137, White Pine with 112and Mojave with 86.5 points. Leading the way for the Dawgs were Macee Bundy who won the 200 and 400 meter runs and anchored the second place finishing 4X400 meter relay team. The Lady Dawg 4X100 relay team won easily by two seconds. Running for the Dawgs were Emily Teerlink, Nikita Eskelsen, Rainee Brito and anchor Julia Ramirez. Brito, Sarah Barnum, Hailee Thornley and Teerlink placed second in the 4X200 meter relay. The Dawgs continued their relay success coming in third in the 4X400 meters. Running for the Dawgs were Ramirez, Brito, Sarah Walters and anchor Bundy. Other point getters were Eskelsen with a third in the long jump and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Ramirez had a third in the 400 meters and Viviana Vega-Archuleta finished the grueling 3200 meters in fourth place. “Our girls had an excellent meet,” said Coach Gary Hartman.” We did well despite missing a few girls.”

On the Men’s side the Dawgs finished a disappointing 11th out of 17 schools with a score of 24 points. Highest finishers for the Dawgs were Taua Fiso with a fourth in the shot put, Brogham Bingham took fourth and Ty Bryant sixth in the pole vault and Jaden Juan with a sixth in the triple jump.
