Lillian M. Smith – Obituary

Lillian M. Smith, (Lyn), 73, of Beaver Dam, AZ and Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on February 3, 2018 in Cleveland. Lillian is the mother of MLN writer, Teri Nehrenz

The Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 21 at Mesquite United Methodist Church, 420 W. Pioneer Blvd. at 11 a.m. with a light lunch served at the church afterward.  Gary Williams will be officiating.  Friends are welcome.

Lyn was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 25, 1944. She married Clennon Ray Adkins in 1961 and gave birth to two children David and Theresa; the couple divorced in 1966. Lyn was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

She found her partner for life in 1985 and married Robert Smith on September 28, 1987 they remained married for 20 years until Robert passed away in 2007. Lyn was a devoted wife and tended to Robert day and night for several years while he was bedridden before his death. She was even with him every waking hour when he was required to stay in nursing care.

Lyn worked as a Bartender for Johnny Tramend for many years in several lounges. She enjoyed gardening, indoor plants and animals. She gave regularly to the Veterans, St. Jude, Easter Seals and the ASPCA. After marrying Robert, Lyn was happy to become a full time Homemaker and spend most of her days tending to her dogs, first Tequila and Sheba and later Bear and Duke, and her two enormous gardens. She loved canning and cooking the freshly harvested fruits and vegetables, she made particularly good zucchini bread which she shared generously with neighbors, friends and family.

Lyn is survived by her daughter Theresa M. Nehrenz (Phillip) of Beaver Dam, AZ; son, David A. Adkins (Debi-Gibel-Takak) of Hurricane, UT; grandchildren Jessica Dawn Callan; Jeremy Dylan Callan (Sam Chiaramonte); Britney Nichole Adkins; David Adkins Jr.; Phillip Nehrenz Jr.; Stephen Nehrenz (Samm Wooten) and Marisa Nehrenz as well as several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Marlene Hotchkiss and Dorothy Miko.

Lyn is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Smith; grandson Joshua David Callan; mother Helen Julius; father, David Bryant; her brothers Raymond and Richard; niece Dorothy; dogs, Sheba, Tequilla, Duke and Bear and dear friends Bert Koteles and William Carlier.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations, though not necessary, may be given to We Care for Animals.

The family of Lillian M. Smith wishes to thank The Heritage Cremation Society, Cleveland, Ohio, Final Details, Mesquite United Methodist Church and Gary Williams.

      Thank you Jan and Mike. We spent three months packing and settling her house in Cleveland; she passed away 12 days before the move.
