Bulldog Softball Roundup for week of April 13

The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog softball team ended the first week of 3A Sunrise Conference play with a 1-2 record. The Lady dogs lost to Boulder City 14-8 on Monday April 9, lost to Del Sol 15-5 and got their first win 15-7 over TECH.

In the loss at home to the Del Sol Dragons, the Lady Dogs matched the Dragons evenly with a 0-0 score after three complete innings. The Dragons took advantage of three Bulldog errors to score five runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead 5-0 after four. The Dragons added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to lead 7-0. The Lady Dawgs battled back in the bottom of the fourth with 3 runs cutting the Dragons lead to 7-3. Del Sol blew the game wide open in the top of the sixth inning putting 8 runs on the scoreboard on 5 hits and five Bulldog walks. Despite trailing 15-3, the Lady Dogs managed to score two runs in the bottom of the inning making the final score 15-5. Savannah Price and Ally Wright led the Dogs with two hits.

The Dogs came out swinging against the TECH Roadrunners winning by a score of 15-7. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 13-2 after four innings of play and held on for the victory. Kari Wakefield led the Dogs with two hits. Kaysha Heath had 3 RBI’s for the Bulldogs followed by Calee Clem and Taylor Ostrowski with two each. Savannah Price went the distance for the win. The Lady Dogs travel to Moapa Valley to face the Pirates on Tuesday April 17 and host Chaparral on the April 19. “We had a tough time adjusting this week to the slow speed of the Del Sol and TECH throwers,” said Bulldog coach Travis Griffith. “We also made some costly defensive mistakes which cost us the games. We hope to limit our mistakes this week when we face two quality teams.”
