The Virgin Valley High School girls track and field squad defeated Desert Pines and Lincoln County Friday March 23 by the score of 135 to 36 for Desert Pines and 5 points for Lincoln County.
The Dawgs won 15 events to win going away.
Leading the way for the Dawgs were Macee Bundy with firsts in the 200 and 400 meter runs, Emily Teerlink in the 100 meters and long jump, Viviana Vega in the 1600 and 3200 distance races. Bundy was part of the 200 and 400 meter winning relay team, Teerlink anchored the 100 and 200 meter relay winners and Vega was part of the 4×800 relay winners.
The Lady Dawgs dominance continued in the hurdles and field events. Julie Ramirez won the 300 meter hurdles and Kaden Lee won the 100 meters. Leading the way for the Dawgs in the field events were winners Kasity Sudweeks in the discus, Emma Wilson in the pole vault, Hailey Thornley tied in the long jump and won the triple jump.
On the boy’s side, the Dawgs placed second in their meet with 65 points trailing Desert Pines who put up 96 points and placed ahead of Lincoln County’s 16 points.
Winning for the Bulldogs were Kade Haviland in the 3200 meter distance race and Ty Bryant in the pole vault, Braden Bingham in the high jump and Jaiden Juan in the long jump.
“We had a good meet,” said coach Gary Hartman. “Several of the kids had personal bests, which is what we are looking for, early in the season. The girls dominated as the results show.”
The Bulldogs next meet is the annual Richard Lewis Invitational at Moapa Valley on Friday, April 6.
