Mesquite welcomes new business while saying goodbye to an old favorite

By Kristen Williams

After 10 years in business, Ready Golf closed its doors for good on Saturday, Feb. 11. Mike and Michelle Brooks have owned and operated Mesquite’s only full service golf store for the last decade.

They recently moved the location of the store in an attempt to continue serving the community from a smaller footprint. While store manager Don Patnaude continued to fulfill Mesquite’s need for custom club fitting, repairs and grips, with less floor space to fill up with inventory, Patnaude and the owners streamlined the retail space based on their experience of the true necessities in a golfers’ world, such as equipment, balls, tees, accessories, apparel and shoes.

Still, partly because of competition from online giants and slow sales especially in the summer months, the business was no longer sustainable.

Ready Golf is beloved in the community as the quintessential Mesquite small business – friendly, personable customer service in a comfortably pleasing environment, along with fair prices on quality merchandise. They also contributed to the community in other ways, such as supporting other local businesses at every opportunity.

They were active chamber members, and gave back to the community with their support of local charities. A dog-loving family, they often held fundraisers for the local rescues, generating much needed food for local animals. They also made generous contributions to countless golf tournaments in the way of merchandise donations for prizes, and were active and instrumental in promoting such events.

Many shoppers found more than just purchases at Ready Golf – they found a wonderful new friendship. The Brooks are thankful for all the friends they’ve made over the years.

While the goods and services they provided will surely be missed, you won’t have to miss the owners themselves or go far to find their friendly faces.

When the couple relocated Ready Golf, the golf cart business spun off as its own entity, Ready Golf Cars, and set up its location next door to the retail golf shop. The Brooks will continue to serve the local golf market by focusing their efforts on running that business in the same friendly, professional way for which they’re known.

Ready Golf Cars is an authorized EZ-GO golf car sales and service dealership. They sell new and refurbished golf cars and accessories, and provide service on existing EZ-GO electric cars.

Ready Golf Cars’ flagship product is the EZ-GO Freedom RXV ELITE, powered by Samsung SDI Lithium batteries.

This option gives customers a maintenance free battery solution that uses less energy for a faster, longer lasting charge, with a five year warranty. Buyers make choices for their vehicles similar to buying a new car – color, accessory options, custom wheels, and more.

They can also choose from used cars with lead-acid batteries, which have been completely refurbished in-house, with all the same custom options as the new cars. Financing is available for buyers, and the business also takes trade-ins and buys used carts.

Ready Golf Cars has another location in Las Vegas and their combined inventory can be found on their website at readygolfcars.com. For more information, contact Ready Golf Cars at (702) 346-2309.
