The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog defeated the Chaparral High School Cowboys 56-50 Thursday night Feb. 15 at Del Sol High School. The win moves the Dawgs into the 3A Southern Region finals against Mojave High School on Sat. February 17 at 4pm. The Rattlers reached the finals by defeating tournament favorite Moapa Valley 59-57 in three overtimes. The win assured the Bulldogs a place in the Nevada 3A State Tournament in Reno next week.

The Bulldogs defeated the Cowboys for the third time this season despite facing the Rattlers without Alexis Boatright who was injured in the thrilling win over Cheyenne Tuesday night. Savannah Price led the Dawgs in scoring with 16 points followed by Nathalie Lagamayo with 15 points. Taylor Barnum and Sidney Ludvigson added 9 and 8 points respectively. The Bulldogs led 22-21 after one half of play but fell behind 32-30 at the end of the third period. The Lady Dogs put on a strong fourth period outscoring the Cowboys 26-18 for the win. The Mojave, Lady Dawg showdown, pits two teams who did not win their league titles but endured to make the State finals. The winner will matchup against the second place finisher from the 3A Northern Region and the loser will face the Northern Champion.
