Community Calendar Feb. 8-14, 2018

We Care for Animals is holding their General Meeting today at 5 p.m. at the Historic Gym located at 51 E. First North St.

We Care for Animals (WCFA) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit animal rescue organization located in Mesquite, Nevada near the Nevada-Arizona Strip border.  WCFA is a foster-based rescue; we do not have a facility.  Our cats and dogs are in foster care until adoption.

We Care’s service areas are Mesquite and Bunkerville, Nevada and the Arizona Strip communities of Scenic, Littlefield, Beaver Dam and Desert Springs.  We find quality homes for homeless companion animals, provide low-cost or free spay and neuter for pets of qualified pet owners in the areas mentioned above, as well as assistance with Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) of community (feral and free-roaming) cats.  You can help save community cats in your neighborhood by becoming their caregiver and getting them spayed and neutered with our assistance.  Contact us for more information by leaving a message at 702-346-3326.

Get ready to rock-n-roll with your favorite girl group songs from the 1960s when the Virgin Valley Theatre Group continues its musical production of the “Marvelous Wonderettes, Dream On” at the Mesquite Community Theatre, 150 N. Yucca St. on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

John Nilsen began studying classical piano from his mother at age six. Continuing his musical education, he began playing guitar at age fourteen. John moved to Ashland, Oregon in 1974 to attend Southern Oregon College (Southern Oregon University). Nilsen graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and was honored by the institution in 1995 in recognition of his outstanding achievements, dedicated efforts and leadership in the field of the performing arts with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the most prestigious award bestowed upon Southern Oregon University graduates. An accomplished pianist, guitarist, songwriter, lyricist and vocalist, Nilsen was chosen to be a Deering Banjo Artist in 2016. You can see Nilsen perform on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Valley Presbyterian Church, 350 Falcon Ridge Pkwy.
