A musical trip back in time

Get ready to rock-n-roll with your favorite girl group songs from the 1960s when the Virgin Valley Theatre Group opens its musical production of the “Marvelous Wonderettes, Dream On” on Friday, Jan. 26.

Two seasons ago, VVTG audience members discovered the “Wonderettes” at the Springfield High Senior Prom. They were introduced to four teenage girls who were the school’s “trophy-winning” song leaders. Theater goers were privy to the relationships the girls developed among themselves and with their boyfriends/husbands. The audience sang and reminisced over the songs from the 50s as the girls took on the challenge of entertaining their classmates at the prom. Fast forward to the 10 year class reunion and the audience was able to catch a glimpse of where the girl’s lives had gone. Now you can discover the rest of the story.

The Marvelous Wonderettes, Dream On, written by Roger Bean and directed by Glen Bjornson, will take audience members back in time once again, to the girls’ future leading up to their 20th class reunion and all the music you loved to hear from the 60s and 70s.

The audience will first be transported back to 1969 when The Marvelous Wonderettes are back at Springfield High to throw a retirement party for their favorite homeroom teacher.

This new cast of girls in the old familiar roles will sing their way through the greatest girl-group hits of the 60s and bid Ms. McPherson a fond farewell. One of the Wonderettes reveals she will be saying goodbye to search for success and happiness on her own.

Act two of this show finds the girls back together as the class of 1958 celebrates their 20-year reunion. The classic pop and rock hits of the seventies provide the perfect soundtrack for these old friends to catch up on the places life has led them, all performed with their own marvelous spin.

Join real life friends Kathy Petrus (Betty Jean), Karen Ransdell (Missy), Jan Casebolt (Suzy) and new member of the Virgin Valley Theatre Group, Francesca Fontain (Cindy Lou), as these incredibly talented women, under the musical direction of Denis Feehan, put their vocal and acting talents together in the Marvelous Wonderettes, Dream On Jan. 26, 27, Feb. 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. and Jan 28 and Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Mesquite Community Theatre.

Tickets are available at Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, Ready Golf, Mesquite Fine Arts Center and the Mesquite Community Theatre box office one hour before showtimes. Tickets are $19 for adults and $5 for children. For more information, contact the VVTG at vvtgnv.com or www.mctnv.com.
