City Manager Andy Barton will hold a community forum today at 8 a.m. at the Pioneer Center in Sun City. You’re welcome to join your neighbors and friends in finding out what’s happening in Mesquite. Barton will be available to answer all questions. Business owners may want to ask questions regarding the upcoming Redevelopment Agency meeting.
Redevelopment agencies are a tool available to communities to help breathe new life into areas in need of revitalization, economic development and new opportunity.
In 1995, the Mesquite City Council recognized the need to revitalize and reinvest in the downtown area of Mesquite and created the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Mesquite (RDA). Although the RDA is technically a separate legal entity from the city, the agency board is composed of the Mayor as chair and the councilmembers as members of the board.
The RDA promotes the renewal of downtown Mesquite and other older commercial districts by working with developers, property owners and the community to accomplish beneficial revitalization efforts. The RDA does this by funding public works projects, administering business incentives and overseeing other programs and initiatives that create greater commercial activity in redevelopment areas.
At this time, there are three incentive programs available to commercial property owners in the Urban Corridor South of I-15 (Map): Facade Rehabilitation, Sign Replacement, and Building, Remodeling and Rehabilitation. (Guidelines, Application and Affidavit) To participate in the programs, please contact redevelopment staff to verify eligibility.
RDA members will be meeting prior to the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 4:30 p.m.
Join the College of Southern Nevada for a 3-week course of wellness chats that encompass the big components of personal wellness. Instructor Deborah Campbell is dedicated to providing you with fitness training and motivation.
There will be two separate sessions offered allowing you to choose one that will work best for your schedule, either all morning classes or all evening classes.
Introduction to the Fit Lifestyle, Nutrition, Exercise, Motivation, Support & Accountability and Movement in the Office are some of the topics that will be taught.
Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays 10-11 a.m. or 7- 8 p.m. The cost is $40.
For more information contact: 702 346-2485 or email darlene.montague@csn.edu. Classes begin Jan. 22

Kick up your heels this weekend in the CasaBlanca Showroom when Corrie Sachs pays tribute to Reba McEntire.
This Five Time Award Winner has been paying tribute to Reba McEntire for the past 25 years. Sachs was awarded “Tribute Artist of the Year” by the Las Vegas Review Journal. She has recently been inducted into the Las Vegas Entertainers Hall of Fame. Come on out and enjoy an evening of great music as Sachs pays tribute to the Queen of Country.
