It has been three long years since Mesquite benefited from the World Long Drive competition and now it’s back.
Qualifying rounds have been happening since Saturday and hundreds of competitors from across the globe have flocked to Mesquite to hopefully win a spot that will land them in Oklahoma for the championship in September.
On Tuesday, The Clash in the Canyon will air live on The Golf Channel from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Mesquite Sports and Event Complex, and will include semifinals and finals for the Women’s Division and Men’s Open Division.
The event is free to attend. For more information go to https://www.worldlongdrive.com/.

Lots of Utah soccer tournaments
Mike, just because Mesquite Local News doesn’t cover anything that happens at the MSEC, unless it is golf related, doesn’t mean that the amazing facility is vacant the rest of year. While golf and gaming are two great pillars of income and interest in our community, they are not the only draw, in fact just since January, the MSEC has hosted 4 very large weekends of soccer tournaments, 529 teams, 8,000+ youth players. (Not including parents, families, referees, etc.)
The MSEC also hosts a very large youth football tournament every November with 2,000+ youth players plus families.
Not to mention Friday nights in the spring host to h.s. Lacrosse, Saturdays in the spring are filled with regional competitive and local recreational soccer leagues.
While the temperatures here in Mesquite limit activities during the summer months, the activity ramps back up mid-August with high school soccer league games and the Mesquite Cup High School soccer tournament, Regional youth football and soccer leagues, local recreational soccer league with FC Mesquite Kicks.
Please feel free to reach out to any of the local youth sports organizations to help volunteer for any of the great events held at the MSEC annually bringing over 13,000 youth to the valley, along with possibly a parent or two!
Terry,
We would love to cover the events but nobody ever sends us the information about them happening…before they happen. While we do our best, we are certainly not mind readers and if these events are happening, please let us know. Send us some press releases like the golfers do, keep us posted and we’ll help keep the rest of Mesquite informed, to the best of our abilities, about what does go on at the MSEC.
Teri,
We’ve tried for years, and did again last Saturday, I sent a bunch of information to one of your reporters and I’ll wager a D.Q. Blizzard that it doesn’t make it in your paper!
Terry,
I won’t take that bet because we only have two full time reporters and neither one of us received anything. If you send the information to me at terin.bbm@gmail.com, I’ll make sure that it does get into the paper or at the very least online. I do try to list the tournaments that appear on the city website in our calendar but quite often the listings don’t contain times or contact information. If they don’t have times, I know that tournaments schedule games as teams advance, that’s still fine, but without contact information, there’s really nothing concrete to list.
Email has been sent, please confirm receipt.
Thank you
