The Virgin Valley High School girls track team easily defeated Mojave and Sunrise Mountain High Schools in a tri-meet Wednesday, April 5, at Sunrise Mountain. The Lady Dawgs won 12 of 18 events contested on their way to 92 points against 46 points to Mojave and 42 points for Sunrise Mountain. Event winners for the Dawgs were Abbie Barnum 100 meter dash and 100 meter hurdles, Macey Bundy 200 meter dash, Sarah Walters 800 meter run, Bernice Fiso discus, Emma Barnum high jump, Nikita Eskelsen long jump and Markell Ludvigson in the triple jump.

The Lady Dawgs swept all four relay events contested. Bulldog runners in the 4×100 meter relay were Ekelsen, Abbie Barnum, Emily Teerlink and anchor Bundy. Winning 4×200 meter relay members were Hailee Thornley, Jaylee Whipple, Emily Hafner and Kaden Lee. Keeping the ball-rolling for the Dawgs were Alyssa Ponce, Viviana Vega, Walters and Bundy who won the 4×400 relay. The Bulldog winning 4×800 meter relay team was Walters, Ponce, Bundy and Vega who ran six seconds faster than their nearest competitors.

Bulldogs placing second in individual events were Abbie Barnum 300 meter hurdles, Ponce in the 1,600 meter run, Vega in the 3,200 meters, Elena Andelin high jump, Emma Wilson pole vault and Thornley in the triple jump. The Bulldogs next tri-meet will be at Desert Pines High School on April 19.

 

Bulldog boys run third in tri-meet at Sunrise Mountain

Virgin Valley didn’t have one of their better days Wednesday, April 5, scoring only 39 points to Sunrise Mountain’s 65 points and winner Mojave’s 69 points. Bulldog first-place winners were Jaden Dalton and Reid Jensen. Dalton won the shot and Jensen outdistanced his competition in the discus throw. Placing second in other events were Pedro Osuna in the 100 meter dash, Devin Cox in the 110 meter high hurdles, Victor Colmenero in the 800 meter run, Brogan Bingham in the pole vault and the Bulldogs 4×100 and 4c200 relay teams. The Dawgs travel to Desert Pines on the April 19.
