The Virgin Valley High School softball team led 9-5 going into the bottom of the sixth inning but gave up seven runs to fall eventually 12-9 to Chaparral.

The Cowboys were up 4-1 after four innings of play before the Dawgs rallied for five runs in the fifth to lead 6-4. The Bulldogs scored on two walks, two errors and a double by Savanah Price. Price scored the last run of the inning on a passed ball.

The Bulldogs gave up one run on two walks and an error making the score 6-5 for the Dawgs. Bulldog Melissa Vanorsdale worked the Cowboy pitcher for a walk to start the top of the sixth, Jessi Barnum followed with a bunt single, Calee Clem added a single driving in Vanorsdale, Barnum scored on a ground ball and Price drove in pinch runner Ally Wright giving the Dawgs a seemingly large 9-5 advantage.

The roof fell in on the Dawgs in the bottom of the inning as the Cowboys loaded the bases on two walks and a single with two outs. The Cowboys added another walk forcing in a run plus a long double to cut the Dawgs lead to 9-8. A pass ball scored one run and two straight hit before a long triple added the final runs for the Cowboys making the final tally Cowboys 12 Bulldogs 9.

Price led all hitters going 4-4 including a double and three runs batted in. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 0-4 in Sunrise League play and 9-14 overall. The Dawgs host Boulder City on Wednesday April 19 and Tech on Friday April 21.
