It was no April fool’s joke on Saturday, someone who purchased an Arizona Powerball ticket at the Scenic General Store, 2960 Scenic Blvd., is $60 million richer.

This is the first time in nearly five years that someone has hit the jackpot in the Arizona Lottery. Coincidentally enough, the last winner, in a drawing in Sept. 2012, won after purchasing their ticket from the Beaver Dam Lodge, just a few miles away.

The winner, who has yet to claim the jackpot, has just 180 days from April 1 to make their claim to the Arizona Lottery. They will also have a big choice to make: either take the win through a 30-year annuity, or receive a $36.5 million cashout.

Scenic General Store will also receive a 6.5 percent commission on the sale of the winning ticket, and their employee who sold the ticket will receive a $5,000 bonus directly from the Arizona Lottery.

The winning numbers from Saturday’s drawing were white balls 9, 32, 36, 44 and 65 with a Powerball number of 1 and a Powerplay number of 3.

The Sept. 2012 winners, Glen and Cathy Von Wagoner of Midway, Utah, who also have a house in Mesquite, didn’t realize they had won for nearly a month after the drawing. Thankfully, they realized they had the winning ticket within the time period to claim it.

Another 11,000 winners throughout Arizona also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100.
