Archrival Pirates crush Lady Dawgs 20-9

As usual of late, the Virgin Valley High School softball team was playing from behind after only one inning of play trailing Moapa Valley, 3-0 Thursday, April 6, in the Dawg Pound.

Bulldog thrower Savannah Price gave up three straight hits after two were out scoring two runs for Moan. An error added a third run before Price struck out a Pirate to end the inning.

An error, walk and a passed ball increased the Pirates lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning. The Bulldogs rallied in the bottom of the second to score two runs cutting the Pirate lead to 4-2. Calee Clem scored on a double steal and Jessie Barnum scored on a bases loaded walk.

The Pirates blew the game wide open in the third putting up nine runs to take a 13-2 lead. The Pirates had five straight hits in the inning driving Price off the mound. Clem came into the game in relief. The Bulldogs added two runs in the bottom of the third on a single by Calee Clem and a triple by Shalee Hafen to make the score 13-4.

The Pirates took advantage of Bulldog walks and an error to score three more runs in the fourth to lead 16-4. The Lady Dawgs would not give up adding three runs of their own in the fourth cutting the Pirates lead to 16-7.

The Bulldogs and Pirates traded runs in the fifth inning making the score 17-8. The final score found the Dawgs losing 20-9. The Bulldogs league record fell to 0-3 and 9-12 overall. The Bulldogs next home game will be on April 19 against Boulder City.
