The Virgin Valley High School softball team wasted little time Thursday afternoon March 17 putting 11 runs on the scoreboard in the first two innings to win easily 14-3 over the visiting Sunrise Mountain High School Miners. Bulldog starter Savannah Price and Karla Correa shut down the Miners bats.
Bulldog Price began the first inning rally with a single. Three hit batters, a walk and an error opened the floodgates giving the Dawgs a 5-0 lead after one inning. A single by Taylor Ostrowski to open the second inning led to six more runs and an 11-0 lead after two. Four walks by the Miners picture and Ostrowski’s second hit of the inning were the key blows. Correa relieved Price to begin the fourth inning giving up one run to the Miners on two walks and a wild pitch making the score 11-1. The Dawgs added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning highlighted by singles from Jessi Barnum and Abbie Boss. Correa faltered a little in the top of the fifth giving up two runs on no hits making the final score 14-3. Price got the win. Ostrowski led the hitters with two. “We played well but still have a lot to work on ,” said Bulldog coach Travis Griffiths. We need to cut down our mistakes.” The Bulldogs next home game will be on March 22 against Mojave High School. The Bulldogs season record stands at 3-3.
