MILLER EDGES STANGER BY ONE

The 32 MMGA players teed it up at Falcon Ridge on Tuesday, Nov. 8 under beautiful fall weather. With Andrew Yeh’s absence Tim Miller and new member Rod Stanger battled for medalist. Miller shot 37-40 while Stanger also shot 37 but his bogey, bogey start on the back cost him in the end as he shot 78 to lose by one shot.

Tom Durenberger (84), Rory Tomsic (84) and Frank Louistro (101) all tied for first place low net at 69. Louistro dropped off when he triple bogeyed the second handicap hole and got third place. It went to the fourth hole the par five first hole for Durenberger to win with a par while Tomsic bogeyed.

Don Mannon (83) and Jeff Hoyt (82) were tied for fourth with net 70. Mannon won that tie with a sweet birdie on the difficult par four 13th. That left Joe Smith (83), Dan Trower (92) and Greg Sullivan (87) all tied for the last three spots at 71. Smith won sixth with his bogey. Trower got seventh with a double and that left Sullivan in the eighth pay off slot.

Durenberger had the hole of the day on the par four 6th. He pulled his drive into the hill on the left in some bushes. He elected to hit it straight out to the fairway. From there he hit his third shot 15 feet from the cup and made a nice putt to save his par.

SCHOLL WINS FIRST MEDALIST AT MMGA

Rick Scholl fought off five MMGA players shooting in the 70’s including normal winner Andrew Yeh. He shot 38-37 for 75 while Yeh shot 41 on the front but added three straight birdies on holes 15,16, and 17 to shoot the low nine of the day of one under par 35 only to lose by one shot.

Other contenders were Bubba Petrick (77), Tim Miller (78), Gene Scavetta (78) and Ben Bishop (79). The boys must be warming up for the club championship over the weekend. Bishop was rewarded with first place low net at 66 when he shot par, par and Rory Tomsic (80) and net 66 went par, bogey for second.

Gene Scavetta and Dan Trower (87) tied for third at 67 and won it by recording a birdie on the first handicap hole. David Miller (84) had fifth all by himself with net 69. Petrick at net 70 broke a tie with fellow player Tim Miller by going par, par for sixth place and Miller settled for seventh.

Sterling Johnson had the putt of the day. On the par four 13th he putted from off the green and his ball traveled some 66 feet like a ground hog searching out his hole and dropped home for a nice birdie three and a skin.
