It’s not very often the city gives away its keys. But that’s what Mesquite will do on Wednesday, Nov. 16 after the Mayor proclaimed it Ted and Doris Lee Day.

“This proclamation is something that’s very special to our community,” Mesquite Mayor Al Litman said at the Nov. 9 City Council meeting. “It isn’t often we have families or individuals who make contributions to Mesquite in the fashion that these individuals have for so many years.”

Greg Lee, their son and CEO of the Eureka said “On behalf of my parents, I want to thank you for this honor,” Greg Lee said. “I want you to know how proud I am of my parents. “

“In the two and a half years I’ve been mayor this is probably the happiest thing I’ve done,” Litman said.

In reading the proclamation, Litman said “For over 20 years Ted and Doris Lee have chosen to take the time out of their commanding lives to help make the City of Mesquite a better place to live and make significant and positive contributions to bettering social, community and cultural conditions in the city of Mesquite.

“These individuals have become a viable and positive force in our community and demonstrated a common conviction of charity and social responsibility which manifests all that is good in the individual and that the well-being of the community is largely dependent on helping others.

“Their community events and projects like Mesquite Reads and Rockets over the Red Mesa on the Fourth of July have enriched the lives of children and adults.

“The Lees have continued to move forward and contribute to Mesquite with their innovative ideas and the Eureka Community Initiative projects.”
